atypical migraine with persistant aura

Post a new topicby olmsteds on Wed Feb 27, 2008 3:44 pm

I would like to know if anyone has experienced migraines with the following characteristics: (1) a ("village idiot - short term memory loss type of) prodrome 1-2 days beforehand; (2) aura that does NOT go away when the headache begins, but persists until it ends or the headache is aborted by Demerol; (3) headaches that last 2-5 days if untreated, and are accompanied by light and sound sensitivity and nausea; (4) headache made more intense with tryptans or DHE. If not treated with preventatives Topomax and propranolol, headaches would recur at least once per week, or more. Thank God for those two drugs. Somebody "out there" must have had this type. I need to know what can be done besides going to the home clinic for a shot. We dread traveling because nobody besides the clinic with all the medical records would use Demerol this way. They would think, "Another junkie seeking drugs", rather than pain relief. Morphine, etc, does NOT help. Thanks.
