basilar migraines

Post a new topicby TIA on Mon Aug 20, 2007 12:45 pm

I have recently been diagnosed with Basilar migraines with aura. I was wondering if there is anyone else who might have them and what kind of treatment program you are on. With a Basilar migraine I cannot take any type of vasocontricting medication, triptans or ergotamines. The only thing the doctor has me on is an antidepressant and a blood pressure medication and i am seeing little results. I have been on these for a little over a month and the medication has been tweaked once already. My trigger so far, seems to be exercise. When I try to exercise within 5 minutes I get double vision, dizziness spinning, extreme ringing in ears, neck pain, confusion, eye dropping and a numbness in my face. I am usually unable to do anything until this passes, usually within 1 hour but then after that i just dont feel well the rest of the day. The worst is when it happens when I am driving, luckily I do get an aura so I do have enough time to pull over. Very scary. If someone has this or knows someone that suffers from this, please let me know. Thank you.

I just posted and I sorta have the same problem with the aura it really scares me not being able to see. I also get numb in my arms and legs and I feel terrible the rest of the day. I am so glad I found this site because it seems like a lot of people are having the same problems I am.

have you been diagnosed yet, or seen a Neurologist? I have found a couple triggers to my attacks. it seems that exercise, and sugar bring them on, exercise quickly and sugar takes a while. if you have basilar migraines get a medic alert bracelot, my doctor told me to not take any vasoconstrictors-could bring on a stroke. Let me know what other things you are experiencing, any pain besides vision problems?

I have not be diagnosed, but I think I probably need to go to the dr soon. I also have confusion, but what bothers me most is that my arms and face go numb. Sometimes I get the bad headache and sometimes I don't. If I can get an advil migraine in my soon enough I won't get the bad headache.

Get to a doctor as soon as you can, this is nothing to mess with. can you see at all when you have an attack?
I just got over an attack, it wasn't a full blown one-but none the less still not pleasant.
after i have one i am normally wiped out. i am working right now, and as soon as i get home i will probably sleep till morning. i dont always get a headache or neck ache, but if i do it can last for days. Do you have an aura feeling before you have one?

gotta go, good luck and get to a doctor.
