Is this normalI am so glad I found this site. I am 29 and I get a migraine only once every few months. I just had my second one this year. I have not had one since I had my daughter almost a year ago.
I just finished a volleyball game and I started the aura, which I always get, this lasted 15 min. I took 2 advil migraine pills as soon as it started coming on. Finally when I did get my vision back my arms went numb and my face went numb. This really scares me. Is it normal to go numb. i have never actually been to a dr for migraine I just assume this is what I am having because most of the women in my family get them. None have the numbness though. Please let me know if anyone else has this! Thanks
Re: Is this normalI would see a doctor since numbness is usually not a symptom
Re: Is this normalI have had migraines all my life (I'm in mid-50s). Only a few times have I experienced the numbness, and it really scared me at first because I thought I was having a stroke. It is important to have it checked out by a doctor to rule out stroke or other neurological problem. However, in my experience, it can be part of having a migraine.
I log onto "The Daily Headache" website and have found lots of good information. Good luck.
Re: Is this normalThanks for responding, it is always great to get a patients insight.
Re: Is this normalI have had migraines for almost 30 years and yes, I do get numbness in the face and vision disturbances and speech slurs. It is the scariest thing in the world. I have chronic migraine which means I have to live with them. Let me know what you find out. Make sure you are checked out throughly.
Re: Is this normalHi. I have migraines as well. I had them as a child but thought I out grew them. A few years ago, I started to get them again. This time MUCH worse then when I was younger. I just had the sensitivity to light and sound and feeling sick to my stomach. Now, however, I lose control of one side of my body. Like a stroke. I have had a stroke before and when my husband saw me while having the migraine rushed me to the ER thinking it was a stroke. I had a stroke at age 23 due to toxemia. The migraines make me lose all muscle control and my mouth will "melt". My neuro. says it is complicated migraines with neuroloical complications. I get them at least once a month at that time of the month. Also, I will get them just because. I can feel the twitch in my face and my eye and usually go to the ER. By the time I get there, check in and FINALLY see the dr. the migraine has hit and I get my shot and go home.
Re: Is this normalI am now 25 but have had migraines since I was 11. I have had a few migraines with accompanied numbness of the arms and sometimes my lips. It's usually the worst ones that come with the numbness for me. (Why the hell can't it make your whole head numb??? Wouldn't that be nice!) Anyways, visit this site www.migraines.org the site for MAGNUM for more information on numbness with migraines. It's pretty normal. I too have migraines with aura, naseau, vomiting, sometimes seizures and get the visual disturbances like zigzag vision with complete loss of peripheral vision. (At least I only have to worry about light coming at me from the front.) I'd go get checked out by a doctor for an official migraine diagnosis and treatment options but I wouldn't worry too much about the numbness....comes with the territory.

Re: Is this normalHi Whitney,
I am 24 and have migraines regularly. I have experienced numbness while having migraines once or twice. I can imagine you were quite scared when it happened, I was so to. I have read that numbness can be a part of severe attacks. I think I once read this in the online wikipedia encyclopedia. There's a lot of info on this one, very recognisable, I found it very helpful to read through. You read that a lot of very scary signs are actually 'normal'. All the best!!
Re: Is this normalMy daughter has migraines (I'm sure inherited from me and a gift I wish on no one) but she has auro's before hers happen. She see's spots and usually one side of her body goes numb-face down to her leg. It was getting scary one night when her face was numb and she could barely talk. So we took her to family doctor and had test ran etc to make sure, all test came back negative. But found out shortly after she had her auro she'd get a migraine. She takes Imitrax for hers and it seems to help but she has to take it as soon as the auro starts. Hopes this helps.
