Migrane with TIA like symptoms?

Post a new topicby darleen on Mon Nov 05, 2007 2:34 pm

Hi,
I am new here and new to migraines (i think). I need to know if what I am having are migraines if so, what type, Am I on the right meds?, Is this going to last a lifetime? Is there a diet to change this?. Any input would be great. Okay, here's my story..... I am 44 years old and on Oct 29 and Oct 30 I started having siezure like symptoms. My eyes rolled back in my head, I would get pain behind both eyes and on top of my head then I would shake and slur speach or stutter, like I knew what I wanted to say, but could not get the would out. I would see tunnel vision and my blood pressure would rise from 110/78 to 156/98. This would last about 3-5 minutes and then I would return to normal. I always knew what was happening. The morning on Oct 30th my husband took me to the ER, because he thought I was having a TIA (he's a firefighter) the ER's docs thought the same thing. They ran a CBC, MRI EKG, and CT scan that were all normal. They sent me to the local nuerologist and he said it was migraines and put me on topamax and maxalt. Unfortuntely, he is very busy doctor and we did not know what to ask so he did not give me any information on what kind of migraine or information future episodes or drug choices. I continued to have these episodes about every hour and 1/2 for the next couple days. After a few days I finally am feeling a little better. I am now trying to get into see a specialist, but that may take months. So, if anyone one can give me ANY information or advice I would be very thankful.

My 28 yr old daughter has suffered with migraines since she was 9. The symptoms you describe are not the same as any my daughter has experienced or come across in research I have done.

I would get a second opinion from a neurologist.

Good Luck

I have had migraines for almost 30 years and I described symptoms like your to my neuro and he thinks I had a TIA but since the paramedics decided not to transport me to the hospital because they decided I wasn't in immediate danger. My neuro was mad, mad, mad. Also, my sister went to the emergency room with symptoms like yours and they sent her home with a migraine and two days later she was back in the hospital with a full blown stroke. Run, don't walk and get another opinion NOW!!!!!!

Thank you sooo much for your replies...As you can tell I am confused. I have an appt with a specialist in 3 weeks. And put a call into my general doc. As a precaution I have started taking asprin once a day. I did find one type of migraines called Basilar artery migraines that have TIA like symptoms on the web, but without a good diagnoses I don't know. I can't believe the paramatic did not take you...No wonder why you nuero was mad mad mad. I would be too. and sorry to hear about your sister, it sure get me thinking.
