Tingling in face -- early symptom?

Post a new topicby anddilmakes11 on Sat Oct 10, 2009 10:07 am

I have been experiencing tingling/tickling feelings on my face, beginning with my nose and progressing to most of my face and happening more frequently (almost continuously now) for about two weeks. My research shows that tingling can be an early symptom, but it commonly occurs in the hands or feet. I have other symptoms (fatigue, mental confusion, etc) that could be related but since I was diagnosed as hypothyroid years ago I've never felt 'right' anyway so I have no idea if they're related. My questions are:

1. Did anyone else have facial tingling as their primary onset symptom?
2. Am I over-reacting?

I don't want to make a mountain out of a molehill, but I'm seriously frightened. I have 5 young children, 3 older step-children and a grandbaby on the way. If someone out there can talk me down or give me some advice I'd appreciate it.

Numbness and tingling can be very challenging symptoms as there is overlap with several conditions. As this is localized over the face and progressing somewhat, I would recommend neurologic consultation and a possible MRI scan of the brain. Labs may also be drawn to check for other conditions such as B12 deficiency and vasculitis.

Saw my primary care dr. who believes it is basically an overdose of antihistamines. My allergies were really out of control this summer/fall and I knew I was overdoing it with them, but nothing OTC was able to manage them for more than 4 hours at a time. He's moved me to a prescription that seems to be working better, the tingling slowly diminshed as the OTC meds made their way out of my system. He wants me to journal dates/meds/other symptoms if the tingling returns.
