Myasthenia Gravis

Post a new topicby livingwith on Thu Nov 08, 2007 12:06 am

I have been experiencing double vision for quite some time now. This has happened at least four times throughout my lifetime. I also have right-sided muscle weakness, trouble swallowing as I get choked easily. My doctor referred me to an opthanmologist and she is referring me to a Neuro-Opthamologist as she suspects I have Myasthenia Gravis I don’t know much about the disease and if there are those of you who do, any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I also choke easily and have seen a neurologist that prescribed mestinon and diagnosed me with bulbar myasthenia gravis. It works sometimes but I have lost about 40% of my chewing ability. There is some partial paralaysis in my hands as well. It is intermitent.

About 3 years ago I started to lose about 50% of my speech ability. It happened quickly; the mestinon does help. I'm 64 years old and have had a lot of testing over the 3 years.

Find a good neurologist. Watch out using prednizone it did not help me.

Name is Jim.

Hi Samantha, I am 48 years old and have had Myasthenia Gravis for 22 years. I know the frustrating feelings that you are feeling. Been there many many times. It does sound like Myasthenia Gravis to me. But, it is very important to get the right doctor to help you. There are many different medications out there to help get this under control for you and make it liveable.
