Phillip’s story as recorded by his wife, MaryAnn

Post a new topicby livingwith on Fri Sep 12, 2008 12:47 pm

On July 8, 08 Phillip and I were driving back home to Texas from Chicago when a semi truck nearly hit us. My husband managed to avoid a collision. He was naturally furious with the truck driver and told me to phone the number on the semi truck to complain about the driver.
As I handed the cell phone to Phillip, I noticed his right eye nearly closed. I also noticed his right hand shaking violently. The first thing I thought was that Phillip may have had a stroke Eventually his hand quit shaking...Read the full article

Dear Mary Ann,

I am a 35 yr.old mother of a 2yr old and recently (6 mo ago) was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitits ( an auto-immune disease).
It has been in remission for 4 months now, but soon after that calmed down I started becoming fatigued daily and weak and had to start laying down for an hour each day. That's not typical of me. I have been very active and have been into competitive fitness for 12 yrs now. I was used to exercising 6-7 days a week for 1.5-2.5 hours at a time with no problem.

THe last 6wks I have been experiencing a progression of MG symptoms, been in the hospital ER 3 times and admitted on the second time. They ran every blood test, MRI's, CT's, Chest x-ray and they all came back fine.

Each week I have more of the symptoms and this past Sunday it was my Daughter's 2nd Birthday party out at her favorite park with all the people who love her.......and I remember standing there, watching her ride on her new pony ( Her Grandma, Aunt and others all surprised us with) and after getting emotional and teary, I was ok but started to feel funny and wasn't sure what was happening.

I wasn't dizzy or nauseaus like I always am (last 6 wks) but I had been getting out of breath the last 3 days and my chest has felt a little uncomfortable and heavy. Singing to my little girl has become difficult and I get tired and out of breath several times during a song....

I was standing next to my sister and all of a sudden I grab her and that was it, my entire body collapsed and felt like I had melted into a puddle. I lost all control of my body and couln't even sit up, barley could talk or communicate and they laid me on the picnic table bench and called 911.

I could feel people touching me and talking to me, but couldn't move and I began to tremble profusely, as if I were so very cold; but I wasn't cold. Then my hands and feet became numb adn tingly and this all lasted about 2.5 hours and then slowly I stopped trembling, my hands and feet came back and then I could start to move my limbs but felt very weak, but in a different way as normal........

I had NEVER been so scared in my life.......so, now Today, I FINALLY see my Neurologist to find out if I have MG.

SO, yes, it seems that this MG does make you tremble and many other things can happen. I've read on the Mayo Clinic website, that some people can go into a Myasthenic Crisis and have to be intibated because they cannot breathe........and some people die. It hit me with no warning.......it's a very scary disease and I thank God, I wasn't driving and I thank God, I wasn't home alone with my baby.

I hope your husband has stabilized and the meds are working.........God Bless you both
