Handling a health crisis with MyastheniaMy mother (86), who has had MG for a few years, recently fell and fractured her right upper arm. She has been in rehab for 2 weeks now, and it has been like a roller coaster. Fainting spells have plagued her and seem to be interfering with the rehab she so desperately needs to get stronger. She also contracted a bladder infection in the hospital, which they treated with antibiotics. Some kind of pain medication is also in the picture. Is it the meds in combination with Prednisone and Mestinon which are causing this? The staff seem to be uninformed and can't figure how to stabilize her. Any wisdom on this?
Re: Handling a health crisis with MyastheniaHave you contacted her neurologist? He/she should be informed of what is going on.
Re: Handling a health crisis with MyastheniaNeurologist has been out of town, but finally returned. We think we have solved the problem! She has found that the brand name mestinon is the only one that works for her. The generic one has not been successful. We had discovered this a year or so ago, and forgot about it, because, of course, she went back on the brand name and the problems cleared up. However, the rehab facility uses only generic meds. I wonder how many other follks have had this experience.
