Myasthenia Gravis and Biscupid Aortic Root (with aneurysm)Hi... i'm freaking out. Anyone else out there that has MG with Aorta Root aneurysm? I just found out last week actually that I have an anuersym in my Aortic root which is also a biscupid versus a triscipud which is measuring 4.1 cm. In an echo i had 2 weeks prior it showed that it was normal size. . In addition to all that, i was going through tests to see if I have myasthenia Gravis which they essentially diagnosed me with on This past tuesday, so I will be having a thymectomy. But first they need to see if my aortic root could withstand it or something like that.
anyhow, here is more about the meeting with the cardiothoracic surgeon I had on Tuesday 5/13. I could really use your prayers. I just found out that I have myasthenia gravis it's an autoimmune disease, and while testing for that, a CT showed my aortic root is dilated doubled the size it shoudl be. So yesterday I met with a cardiothoracic surgeon and need to have a thymectomy and possible open heart surgery to fix the aortic root. here is what happened at the surgeons: initially I thought he was suggesting no worries. But... he brought his collegue in and started "this is meliss de leon, 35, mother of 3 young children 5,3,18 months. I present her to you on a platter, because there are so many issues to choose from. This is a very complicated situation." So that's not good. Essentially they concluded I do indeed have myasthenia gravis, the general one versus ocular. I do have a mass on my thymus gland. Although not huge, but i guess these things can metatisize and attach themselves to other organs. So I will be having a thymectomy. BUT first, they are very concerned with the aneurysm of my aortic root. HOWEVER, with my aortic root, they don't know if I could withstand surgery to remove the thymus gland or rather if the aortic root will hold up. The dr. thought the echocardiogram I had 2 weeks prior isn't correct. As it shows the aortic root as normal size. He doesn't think my aortic root went from normal size to 4.1 cm in 1.5 weeks (essentially doubling in size). HOWEVER, since my aortic root is biscupid versus the tricsipd he said normally it would be enlarged because of all the blood rushing through there. It is his belief that my aortic root has been like this for some time. But there is no way to confirm that. On the flip side if it was fine 2 weeks ago and 1.5 weeks later I had an aneurysm (which I guess I do as any bulging artery/vein is an aneurysm), then that's not good. Additionally, with Myasthenia Gravis (MG), having general anestesia can trigger or cause me to have a flare of MG. Respitorary failure is a huge possibiilty and I could be on a ventilater for the rest of my life. It's complicated because, if i came to them with either one of them, fine, but trying to deal with both, is the problem. if my aortic root was like this for some time, he thinks I could go another 5-10 years with it the way it is before I'd need surgery to repair it (open heart surgery). BUT since i have the tumor and MG then that really needs to come out esp if it is cancerous which they don't know. If i have the thymecomty there is a chance that it couuld cause problems or make the aortic root worse. I guess it's not a good idea to have surgery on both at the same time because my body could only stand so much major surgery. So they really need to remove the thymus, but he wants me to have a transespephical echocardiogram to determine the exact size of my aortic root and valves. At one point he said he thought it was leaking already, which isn't good. i will have to be sedated and they will put a scope down my throat to view my heart and aortic root and valves. He wants a cardiologist to give clearance for the thymecotomy (removal of thymus gland). I guess hospitalization is about 5-7 days and then not recovery about 3-6 weeks up to 2-3 months. How was recoverly from the Thymectomy? How big was the incision? They are pretty such I have a thymoma as there is a soft tissue mass triangular shape on CT scan. How long were you down? I'm trying to remain calm but I just feel like I'm a walking aneurysm ready to erupt. any advice comfort would be appreciated.
