Simple Question

Post a new topicby emicap on Wed Jun 18, 2008 9:31 pm

Hi my name is Emily I am 23. I just stumbled upon this becuase I was bored today. I was researching birthmarks just for fun. Trying to figure out what mine was called. I guess it is called a Cafe Au Latte birthmark...since I cannot find anything else that fits its description. Then I read about how if you have more then one or its bigger then a quarter it could be something called neurofibromatosis(sp?) Well mine (not sure if its more then one or not) starts about 2 inches from my elbow and extends all the way to my fingers on the top and sides of my left forearm and hand. Its a very weird shape...almost like a country on a map. Most people think I have gotten burned. I have many freckles on my face, lips and just about everywhere...but they're not very dark. The BM on my arm isn't that dark either...but it is noticeable because of its size. And it seems to have grown slightly since I have pictures of when I was a child and it wasn't covering the sides of my forearm as it is now.

Anyway I am just wondering if this is just a normal...albet huge birthmark...or if its something I need to get looked at.

Thanks alot!

Hello Emily my name is Marty, you should check the spots or birthmarks with your doctor and if he cant give you an answer get another opnion from a specialist.

I was diagonsed with Neurofibromatosis at the age of 4 and they found a tumor on my Optic Nerve.

If you think or feel there is a problem or even been a problem check it out before it gets too late.

Marty.

if your worried get it checked, normally they take 3 factors to determine nf, which include 6 or more cafe au lait spots sized bigger than a pencil top, a family member with nf,benign tumours, optical tests etc.
