Neuropathy

Both my mother and myself have been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy Neither of us have diabetes
Is there any evidence that this is an inherited condition? I would like to have more information on the most up to date treatment or medications used to lessen the symptoms.
My mother refuses to take medication and deals with the night pains. But I am young enough that at times this does interfere with my day to day life and activities.
Please help.
