Severe painEleven years ago,I opened my mouth wide to eat a sandwich , the pain in my upper lip area hit me very hard ,I thought Wow ! what was that. This pain attack took me to my Dentist ,she did not see anything on the X-ray,but we went ahead with a root canal.
Now after 11 years with this attack coming about once a month ( some times 2-3 months )Over the the years I have had a lot of Dental work with no attacks. For the last 3 weeks I have experienced constant attacks,all centered in the lip area below...Read the full article
Re: Severe painHave you considered you may have Trigeminal Neuralgia? My husband has suffered with it for years, and the symptoms you describe sure sound familiar to me. He, too, thought it was a tooth problem, but 17 years ago most doctors and dentists didn't recognize TN when they were confronted with it. He finally went to the Tufts University Dental Clinic in Boston. The dentist there made an immediate diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia. Armed with that info, he saw a neurologist who put him on Tegretol. This helped with the pain. He has been on other meds since then, and for the most part manages his TN quite well. I hope this helps and that you find relief from this excruciating pain.
