Is the nerve dead?

Post a new topicby Cohbi on Fri Apr 18, 2008 1:52 am

I have diabetic peripheral neuropathy in both feet/toes. I still have some sensation and all but one or two toes on both feet have some amount, albeit small, of feeling. I recently read that peripheral neuropathy was reversible, that the peripheral nerves have the possibility to regenerate as long as the nerve itself was not 'dead'. I was wondering if anyone has experienced any type of reversal with diabetic peripheral neuropathy? I do understand that certain factors must be first in place, such as proper blood glucose levels. I am hopeful that given the right types of exercise and diet accompanied by a revision in lifestyle that I will, at some point in time, regain the lost sensations in my feet. My gait or posture hasn't been affected yet, so I am hopeful that I will be able to 'recover' these lost feelings. Any thoughts or suggestions? For any interested I am a 41 yrs old male obese male working hard towards loosing the weight and changing my lifestyle in order to add as many quality years to my life as I can.
