severe thigh pain

Post a new topicby snowneedle on Mon Apr 13, 2009 12:31 pm

I've had Neuropathy for 6 years. I have all the regular problems, but 2 months ago I have developed severe thigh pain. It makes it very hard to walk. Sitting or laying down makes it worse. My Dr. Added ropinirole to all my meds I am allready taking. Does anyone out there have the same problem?

I have had servre thigh pain for years and since my knee replacement it has gotten worse in my thigh knee and you might as well say my whole leg and both feet. I can hardly walk it gets so bad. I am 59 and feel like an old lady. my dr just put me on neuroton but I don't feel any better yet. I am so tired of being sick and tired and hurting.

I had a similiar problem, took a little figure a therory, but I with the help of my Chiropractor htat because of my neuropathy he could never adjust my back, but my leg was getting worse, so he tried GENTLE TRACTION ON THE LEG, RELAXED L-3, THEN APPLIED ELECTRIC STIMULATOR TO THE THIGH , UP TO WHERE THE GROIN MEETS THE LEG. Much to our surprise pain dissapeared. Took about 3 days and has NOT returned. I only used Alieve and Valium maybe twicea day. Hope this is food for thought.
Good Luck

Have you had an lumbar MRI to check for pinched nerves? Just a thought.

Yes to the MRI which shows a moderate herniation at L5 - S1 but affects nerve root L-5. This does not seem to be the culprit for the thigh pain, for my thigh pain was on the anterior side and included upper buttocks. Also, pain DID NOT radiate past the knee. /Hope this is helpful.

David,

I also had MRI, showing bulging disks in L 3,4,5 and S1. I also had thigh pain on the anterior and sometimes the pain would go down the backside of my leg, down to the knee, but not passed. Not saying it's the same thing, but sounds a little similar. My doc called it "referred" pain.

Have been doing therapy for months and just now feeling better. Also had lumbar injection which help to reduce inflammation.

I tried PT for the, every 5 mo. approx. blowout. I believe that is what cause the stress in an other area ,which created the acute thigh pain. Was told by my pain guy, after MBB injection, that I'm not a candidate for injections or surgery. The herniation I mentioned protudes rather far to my right, but pain is everywhere, accompanied by weakness in the upper thighs. Been 4 weeks since last big OUCH,
time to aleast hear a neurosurgeons opinion. My pain guy is one of the best in my area even, the major city surgeon refers patients to him.
I'm very happy yo hear you are improving.I'm on another blog an a member does well if he can exercise his core while he is not is an episode.
Best of luck

I am sorry to hear you are having such pain.
I am a newbie here and after reading your post had to tell you about my thigh pain. My burning, stabbing pain is on the outside of my right thigh, from my hip down to my knee. It is much worse when I lay down so I have to elevate my legs to sleep.
Mine is a pinched nerve. You did not discribe your pain as a burning, stabbing pain so it must not be a pinched nerve but then again, it could be. Is the pain worse if you run your fingers over it and not painfull to press hard on it?? If it's more painfull to lightly run your fingers over the skin...then it's a pinched nerve.
I do hope you find relief soon. Best of luck to you.
And may the sun always shine for you.

Saw neurosurgeon, he said my problem is multiple lumbar ligament and tendon tears, L-1 to S-1. Also he mentioned mutiple disk tears. He said the parts I need where not invented yet. There doesn't seem to be any nerve compression. So, he was NOT able to suggest a course of action to stop DDD. I'm still researching.
