Is difficulty walking ALWAYs one of the symptoms of NPH?

Post a new topicby moc on Wed Feb 27, 2008 9:57 am

My Dad is having problems with mild dementia and incontinence worsening over the years. He is 83 and has had some difficulties walking as well, but more like the usual slowing of old age not the gait associated with NPH. We spend lots of time visiting doctors but the only one that he seems to hate is the neurologist because he is denying the increased dementia although does acknowledge "memory loss".
Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of anyone being diagnosed with NPH without the component of unusual gait.

Difficulty walking is definately always the first symptom to appear in NPH. One quarter million Americans with some of the same symptoms as dementia, Alzheimer's or Parkinsons's may actually have NPH in reality.
