Guessing GameThe more I read and research about PD the more I realize how little is known about the disease. I even question if there is such a thing as PD. It has gotten to the point where neurologists are diagnosing teens with PD. Is it because it is easier to put a "name" to account for the symptoms when there are no answers? I am sure it is frustrating for the physician but imagine what the patient has to endure. Even the best Movement Disorder Specialist can never be one hundred percent possitive of a PD diagnosis but the patient is the one who has to live with that diagnosis. Question: What tests should one ask for if not feeling "quite right" with the diagnosis or if feeling the neurologist lacks competence? Does prescribing Sinemet constitute a PD test? If it helps ...... it is PD? Thank you for your wonderful site. It has helped me and many others I have come in contact with.
Re: Guessing GameIn many cases the diagnosis of PD is as certain as it can be, while other patients who have some of the symptoms but may lack for example, a resting tremor, might have a probable diagnosis or variant of the typical presentation. Sinemet can be used to see if a response is seen, although some of the other Parkinsonian syndromes may also respond early on in thier course to Sinemet. Getting a second opinion would be a good idea.
