Post a new topicby Vanessa_R on Mon Feb 18, 2008 2:10 pm

Hi my Grandmother just got diagnosed with Parkinsons. She has been given a medication to help her with her symptoms. She says that she is not hungry and has no appetite..she is also very depressed and does not want to do anything. She says that when she eats even a little her stomach feels very full. Is any of this normal

Hello Vanessa,

Thank you for participating in the forum. Sorry to hear about your grandmother's diagnosis of Parkinson's. There is physician-developed and monitored information on treatments (and side effects) for Parkinson's Disease on this website at the following link:
http://www.neurologychannel.com/parkinsonsdisease/treatment.shtml

I hope this information is helpful. Physicians who monitor these forums respond to some posts but not to all, so please continue to post in the forum as you learn additional information.

I wish you the very best.

I had the same problem with the full stomach, lack of appetite, and listlessness.
I now see a psychiatrist who specializes in movement disorder problems. I believe she would say the problems noted above are a part of your grandmom's depression and are not uncommon among PD sufferers. She prescribed Lexapro which has helped me a lot. Best of luck.
