insomnia

Post a new topicby kuch on Fri Nov 09, 2007 9:07 pm

I was diagnosed with pd 8 yrs ago and am doing well (working full time, still play tennis, golf and
bowl) but have increasing sleep problems, esp falling asleep ok but waking up at 4-5am and cant
get back to sleep. My neurologist tells me to see a sleep specialist but the claimed specialist
really has no clue other then to prescribe ritalin and provigil to combat excessive daytime drowsiness.
Is there a Dr. or clinic that specializes in sleep disorders/parkinsons?
Any suggestions-I am on sinemet and mirapex.

I've had PD for about 6 years that, alas, is getting worse. I'm treated at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore by a team of movement disorder specialists (see http://www.hopkinspdmd.org/). Since PD has so many facets, it seems to me a team approach, with neurologists, psychiatrists and other PD-related specialists, is the best option for treatment. Very few of your likely symptons to come will get better on their own. So, try the PD Foundation to locate a movement disorder clinics near you. Good luck.

Latest situation was suddenly falling off to sleep during the day In fact happened while driving!
It is apparently a side effect of Mirapex! Am coming off it gradually, possibly
contributexs to the insomnia.
