insomniaI was diagnosed with pd 8 yrs ago and am doing well (working full time, still play tennis, golf and
bowl) but have increasing sleep problems, esp falling asleep ok but waking up at 4-5am and cant get back to sleep. My neurologist tells me to see a sleep specialist but the claimed specialist really has no clue other then to prescribe ritalin and provigil to combat excessive daytime drowsiness. Is there a Dr. or clinic that specializes in sleep disorders/parkinsons? Any suggestions-I am on sinemet and mirapex.
Re: insomniaI've had PD for about 6 years that, alas, is getting worse. I'm treated at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore by a team of movement disorder specialists (see http://www.hopkinspdmd.org/). Since PD has so many facets, it seems to me a team approach, with neurologists, psychiatrists and other PD-related specialists, is the best option for treatment. Very few of your likely symptons to come will get better on their own. So, try the PD Foundation to locate a movement disorder clinics near you. Good luck.
Re: insomniai also have pd and sleep disorders. recently my internist gave me trazadone and it helps alot. I don't know if it is a long term solution and I only use it when I am haing trouble but thought I would put it out there. You mentioned you have had pd for 8 years. I only have had it for 2 and I am not even doing as well as you (working sports etc.) I have early onset and wonder do you have any suggestions for taking care of myself so I can do more?
