rsd after acl surgery

Post a new topicby sandra627 on Wed Oct 24, 2007 12:16 pm

it's been 8 months and at first i didn't have rsd but once it settled in it's been some battle
i'm on crutches for 3 months now and it's just getting very tiring, physically and emotionally
i'm all sorts of medication, i had a few spinal injections but they didn't help
i would just to have some answers - how long will i be like this? can i start working out? what's next?
anyone out there in my shoes?

If you have a definate diagnosis of RSD, different things work for different people. Get a good medical team, one that knows RSD. If not, you will only being hurting yourself. Try different things. Nerve blocks are working for me, with oral/topical/injected pain meds. You would probably benefit from some mental treatment as well.

If I can advise let me know

Good Luck

I had an ACL replacement in my left knee 8 years ago-- about three years ago I started having other problems with pain, heavy periods and a subsequent hysterectomy. In 2005 I had an unexplained heart attack. Recently I was hospitalized with gall bladder disease, and just a week ago I developed a cyst on my neck which my GP cut open, sutured and now it appears infected.

I took Vioxx for a year and any other pain meds/narcotics my doctor would give me. I went through a very long and difficult period of PT.

I'm very interested to hear more about your story because I do not yet have a definite diagnosis--- I see my neurologist on Tuesday.

Because my ACL surgery was so long ago I thought it was probably irrelevant. Please, anyone who knows about this, help shed some light....

I would say the kindest physical therapist you can find will be your best bet. Slowly, but surely, the pain should decrease. Obviously you can't take Vioxx, but it seems that the swelling was directly correlated to the pain. I agree that warm compresses always feel better, but I know they always iced my knee to help with the swelling. And I agree, that cast (removable or not) seemed like my worst enemy.

Hang in there!
