The more I learn, the more confusing it gets....I had previously mentioned in this forum that I have had disastrous consequences in the first couple of years with my RSD while taking hot bath, it would literally render me unconscious.
Doctors believes, as well as some patients in this forum begged to differ. Today, I found the following information. An increase in body temperature (e.g., caused by hot weather, hot bath, shower, or fever) can worsen symptoms or produce new ones. This occurs because elevated body temperature shows nerve impulse conduction, especially in demyelinated nerves. No one will ever understand how much electricity I have had to deal with over all of these years. Confusion enters, in all of these years, I have never found reference to water/heat/electricity on any RSD website, but I did find it today while researching MS After reading about MS, I went to Fibromyalgia and than to GBS and what I found only confirms by believe, which is, at some point the medical community felt the need to specialise, which translates into taken the puzzle called life apart piece by piece, giving it names, rather than to look at the whole picture, the way it was meant to be. The cause of RSD is unknown, the cause of Fibromyalgia is unknown, the cause of GBS is unknown and MS is not fully understood, yet all of them make references to viruses. I am not a scientist, but I do know that viruses will always attack a overheated area in the system. I seriously question, that scientist truly know, what nerves and fibers actually consist of, which leads right back to where all medical knowledge began, which was with the study of metallurgy's.
Re: The more I learn, the more confusing it gets....I have to agree with you on this topic. This is such contradictry disorder that affects everyone differently. While you are overheating, I am freezing. My doctors note it but rarely offer any information or help to deal with this problem.
I am finding that I must do research and asked pointed question in order to get things rolling. I might still be wondering what was wrong if I hadn't kept asking questions of every medical doctor I saw. It was a surgeon that I saw for a different and unrelated problem that named this monster. He was the one who told me to ask my orthopedic surgeon, "Could this be RSD?" The OS said yes and shipped me off to Pain Management. I don't think there was time for the door to hit my backside. He offered no help at all. I was lucky to have a good primary that I was able to go to for help. Reta
Re: The more I learn, the more confusing it gets....Interesting....
After I had been diagnosed with RSD, my orthopedic surgeon also wanted to send me to PM, but I declined, simply because I was already doing more for myself than they have to offer. Did you know, that pain management gets the least time allotted during medical education, it appears to be an after thought. You mentioned, that I am overheating and that you are freezing, but I can assure you that I have experienced both, the freezing is like a misty, icy coldness, in fact it is rather eery. Thank you for your reply Truth Seeker
Re: The more I learn, the more confusing it gets....I too get overheated and the freezing that you described. All of us with RSD are extremely sensitive to everything in our environment including temperature. I'm very surprised to hear that there are others who don't experience the overheating.~shianne
