A Lifetime of Restless Leg Syndrome

Post a new topicby livingwith on Fri Sep 04, 2009 10:38 am

I have had RLS over 30 years, well I know that now. Back when I first started having the symptoms, there was no doctor’s who knew what the heck I was talking about when I told them I could not keep my feet and legs still. They treated me for “nerves” and said it was all in my mind so they gave me every medicine known to man for my “nerves”… Valium, Ativan, all of the “Ils” like Restoril, Elevil, Flexoril, and so many other kinds of medicines, I can...Read the full article

Sharon, I can truly 'feel your pain"; I've had RLS since my teens, and I'm in my 60's. I have been on meds for the last few years and the RLS has become very well controlled. Last year I was diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Due to changes in drs and medical insurance nothing was done about it. Last week I had another sleep study done, this time with the CPAP on. I have not seen the results, but the drs nurse called to tell me that I 'need' the CPAP and they scheduled me to get one.

I was also told that I have Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. That didn't surprise me because once, while changing the sheets on my bed I saw that the bottom sheet was threadbare ONLY where my feet would touch.

It's sad that your husband is so unsupportive. You are not alone with your multiple medical issues. I wait for each dr visit to hear what new condition I have developed. In 2005 my auto-immune system went into overdrive and I have developed: 2 liver diseases, Systemic Lupus, COPD, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and at least 3 other issues. Sometimes I lose track. I take many meds.

I hope that you will find a support group, even one on-line will help.
