Anemia or iron deficiency and RLS

Post a new topicby ponygirl on Wed Sep 17, 2008 5:04 pm

I suffer from Thalassemia (Mediterranean anemia) and RLS. I found my RLS symptoms worsened when I was pregnant and also when I went though a period of iron deficiency anemia A few years agoI discovered that taking iron helped my RLS symptoms. After figuring this out on my own, I happened to be in the Dr.'s office waiting room and picked up a medical journal. Behold an article on RLS and iron deficiency! The article was about research studies that connected a lack of iron with RLS. I hope that this helps someone! I haven't been able to completely get rid of all my symptoms but found that the iron has greatly reduced them and have been able to get some sleep at night and almost eliminate day symptoms entirely! I've suffered from RLS from childhood and recall feeling such pain in school often asking to leave to the bathroom just to get up and walk around. One teacher called me "legs" because they were always moving under my desk!
