Periodic limb movement disorder

Post a new topicby Sean-uk on Tue Mar 10, 2009 10:30 pm

Hi i don't really no were to start here, but i will give it a shot.
I will try to explain what happens to me on a typical night or any time in the day time that i feel the knead to rest or relax.

When i lay down to go to sleep, or just shut my eyes to relax, not even asleep just when i shut my eyes. My left or right leg will kick up in the air like a soldier marching its a very wild kick to which i have no control over. This can happen all night if i can not ride it out. I all so get this same thing up in my chest , some times the middle of my chest and some times from the left hand side of my chest but i go to sleep laying on my right arm like a baby..Some times they can be very minor body jerks and then some times they can be real full on body jerks, Or a mix between the two.. Now say in the day time my body starts to crash IE i knead to sleep this happens a lot now ,,but i do try to ride it out...I will sit in the chair put my hand at the side of my head and try to sleep for an hour or so but then as soon as i close my eyes, boom it starts.....I have learned my self to ride though this and try to enjoy it like some sort of fair ground ride so as it blocks my mind out from thinking how long until the next one comes...On a bad day i could have 15 easy in a minute, on a good day 3 or 4 before falling asleep....Now i better tell you a little back ground on my self...Now please do not take what i am about to say as the course of this problem i had it well before this even as a young kid but just no were near as bad as i have it now constant since say 10 years ago....I am an alcoholic that does not drink any more....When i was drinking this problem would not be there the alcohol seemed to work like some sort of wounder drug while you was drunk or slightly ummm relaxed though the affects that alcohol has on your body..But then would come the withdrawal from the night before and that made the body jerks 10 times worse...I all so get this some times, if i drift of awake, like say your sitting there looking out the window and you sort of drift away your eyes just focus on nothing and then boom i might get a little head jerk or top end body jerk...Now i have asked my mum to watch me and she says i don't seem to have the jerks when i am asleep but then she did not watch me for 8 hours more like 2 hours...All so she told me my dad use to have the same thing, she says she use to nag at him to keep still and he said to her i have no control over it...All so my dad was a drinker but i have no way of asking if he had it as a kid as he has now past over to a better world...MS runs in our family on my dads side all so his brother died at 30 from an epileptic fit .. I am now 39 and feeling like 50 i never used to feel like this i was all ways the one that jumped straight out of bed full of energy early in the morning ,, all ways real hard grafter ...I all ways lived on my nerves, I all so have the odd panic attack i am terrible in social places now like a wedding ,,I all so have very bad mood swings as in my temper is like a light switch ,,, My tolerance of people now is very thin,,Now i never used to be like that i was all ways known as a very hard working but very laid back person...I was the sort of person that if you started a new job on Monday and i had to pick you up because you had started work with my firm and i could see you was a little green to the job i would say stick with me son and you will have a job for life here...Teach them all i no about the trade,,,Now, god not a chance i don't no if its depression or not sleeping proper or the alcohol i use to drink has affected my brain... I now have to really battle to stay calm,,I am aware of this so thats a good start...But a proper weeks sleep might help lots,,, Are i better add this little bit...I have woke up and i could only move my eyes with a loud sound in my head like it was going to explode and it got louder and louder until i would be able to jump out of it, all so i remember 10 or 15 years ago a feeling like waves coming up my legs as i was trying to sleep sorry but thats the only way i can describe it to you...But i have never had it since....I am sorry to ramble on like this but as with all things its best to get a good back drop on a persons life style so as to under stand it,,,,Well thanks for reading this who ever reads it...Sorry my spelling and grammar is bad but brain wise i all ways have been thick...Hand wise well thats a different matter ,,Put my hand to any thing and could bail you out the pooh,,, Thanks in advance Sean
