9 mo old had hypoxic seizure

Post a new topicby fwlady on Wed Oct 01, 2008 6:11 pm

I am posting this here and sleep disorder forum so perhaps I can get more feedback. Forgive me, but I am at my wits end with this. The baby has been through many tests and retests. He has been diagnosed with vascular ring, which he has been out of surgery fo 2 mos now, and he has mild tracheolaryngomalacia. Most of his symptoms are explained by the malacias and will get better. The thing we are waiting for now, is a redo of a sleep study for desats with his oxygen. He is especially bad the night(s) after a fever. We found he was going into the 60%s the night after he is over the fever. So, I knew what to expect since he had another fever. He has them often, because it seems he has low immunity because of his other issues.

This time, he fell right asleep and had a hypoxic seizure before we could put the monitor on him, my doctor confirmed that was what happened. He acted fine later and the next day. The doc says if he does it again, for 5 min call 911. My doc says the apnea monitor will go off, the Apria lady and pulmo ped nurse says it is very possible that it won't go off if it is another small one. The next night, usually he isn't too bad compared to the first, but last night, he had 9 desats in a row. So it seems he is progressively getting worse with this.

Anyone here know how low a baby has to go to go into a seizure? And, do you think this is related to possible sleep apnea, or just because he gets sicker than most?? He really tolerates the illness pretty well, just the next night is crazy. TIA, Kymberli
