girlfriend's seizures?? PLEASE help!

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Oct 06, 2005 8:03 am

i hope one of you out there can help us. My friend has some seizure like symptoms, but they have not been diagnosed as anything. She gets frequent headaches, and sometimes Advil, Excedrin, Aleve etc. will not make them go away. She has has had this current one for about 4 days now. She also has "episodes" which began a few years ago. Anytime, during anyday, she may feel lightheaded, about on the verge of falling over, really having to try hard to hold on to herself. Her world goes dark but she never fully loses consciousness. Afterwards she has a fuzzy head, may get a headache, is somewhat slightly disoriented. These seem to happen without any aura and no precipitating factors. It may not happen for weeks then happen 5 times a day. Sometimes she can fight her "episodes" away, sometimes she can feel them coming, but they never really happen. She has been to a doc and she had an inconclusive MRI He started her on Depakote, but then gave her 1000mgs a day. Overdose.. slurred sppech, difficult sleep. She went off of that and he changed her diagnosis to mkigranes, which she seldom has. This is where we are now. Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated. Sorry this is so long.

Sorry to hear about your girlfriend. I know how frustrating all of that can be. 9 years ago while I was pregnant with my first child I started experiencing the same things that you're describing, only I was also having occasional "black-outs" where I would loose consiousness for a few seconds. It wasn't showing up on the MRI's nor on EEG tests. They then checked my heart to see if that could be the prob. it wasn't. Finally this year I switched insurance so I had to get a new neurologist. What they finally diagnosed me with is "basalaar migraines". I've been taking 400mg of riboflavin and while I can't explain why it works I know it does. My neurologist says they are VERY rare, and couldn't explain why I started having them, but the treatment is working and has no side effects other than neon yellow pee.
Hope this helps a little and can maybe give you guys some new questions to ask.
