1st seizure and a little worried

Post a new topicby gatecrasher on Fri Aug 10, 2007 5:22 pm

Hello, I am 24 male and as of last week I have never had a seizure. On last friday I was playing a video game as a do most nights when all of a sudden a started to see funny blinking lights in the corner of my right eye. I felt a little funny so I got up and went into a pretty intense seizure from what i've been told. My room-mate found me and called the paramedics. I went to the hospital and had a CT scan, urine and blood test done. They found no sigh on Epilpsy and said it was from the video game. My question is, that I have been feeling very fuzzy and disorientated for the past week. Its like a hang-over that won't go away. I was wondering if that is common and when does it usually go away? I have also been seeing the same lights everyday around 2-4 times each day. The hospital gave me no meds, my eyesight is a little blurry aswell, especially my right eye.

I would suggest seeing a neurologist that specializes in seizure disorders

STAY AWAY FROM THE VIDEO GAMES!!!! This is definitely a trigger for you. Our son has seizures related to playing video games. We finally sold his Play Station. Certain patterns of flashing lights against a neutral background can trigger a seizure. There are some video games he can play, like rpg, if there are no flashing lights or bursts of color. We have a family joke about screening video games, like, "Seizure Game, for sure!". He gets upset about not playing certain games, but it's better than losing your driver's license after a seizure.

The lights you keep seeing are probably seizures, but littles ones and like Curt said it would be who of you to get your behind into a neurologist's office and let him do a complete workup on you to find out what is going on.

The E/R can not just randomly hand out meds for epilepsy unless you are a known case and then only then for one time, that day/night to get you by until you can get home to take your own. I have been that route before, so I know the story.

I am not a doc, but in my opinion it sounds like to me you may be having what is referred to as Simple Partial seizures.

They need to be taken care of in a timely fashion as they can spread to something bigger called Complex Partial seizures. Those are really bizarre and you don't want them, believe me, I have them and mine generalize to form a secondary Grand Mal.

Please go see a neuro, please. DON'T WAIT. With seizures it is like playing with fire.

Please go see a doctor ASAP. Flashing lights are common triggers for seizures (and migraines). Also, if the doctors think you've had a seizure, they'll probably have you do an EEG, which measures brainwaves. A CT scan can tell if there is a physical abnormality (which might explain the cause of a seizure).

Also, you should stay away from the video games. If you're bored, try card games or there are certain video games and hand-held games that don't use flashing displays. If you really like playing games on the computer, you can probably find some that won't trigger whatever problems you're having.
