Fall asleep driving and at work

Post a new topicby foxsmashbros on Mon Sep 22, 2008 12:37 am

Basically i fall asleep all the time since i was like 13. It usually occurs if I'm bored. anytime i get in the car and im not driving i fall asleep in under 5 mins. And when i drive, its like sleep walking just about everyday. i crashed my car twice and both times i was really lucky i didn't die. i usually have to drive through a lot of traffic and i wake up in another lane with someone honking at me, or wake up right before i am about to crash or run off the road, or hit an oncoming car. I tend to try and force myself to stay awake but it always over powers me. sometimes i will drive for an hour and get to the house and realizing i basically slept the entire way. lately i have been burning my self to stay awake during the drive but it has gotten to the point where it doesn't help anymore, now its an instant pain and that it, it use to wake me up and get my adrenaline going. When i was a in middle school i could never stay awake even though i had plenty of sleep and eat right. I could never study because i would fall asleep on my books, could never finish homework without cheating. This lead to me dropping out and just getting a GED. I am an electrician now and have falling asleep many times at work. i can have 150+ pounds of wire on my shoulder feeding it through pipe and fall asleep standing up. Also If when my boss talks to me and tries to show me something on the blueprints I sometimes fall asleep as he is talking to me. I fall asleep and keep working somehow, like numbering wires or wiring up boxes. I never do it right of coarse, i always wire it up or number it wrong when this occurs but somehow my body keeps trying and moving but im asleep and actually dreaming. somehow they never notice, i guess they just don't want to say anything. I also fall alseep reading or on the computer or watching a movie. I also have very vivid dreams, mostly nightmares..i had a dream the other night so scary that i think if i were older my heart would have stopped, my heart was beating so fast it hurt, and my breathing was really fast. the only way i woke up is because my girlfriend woke me up because she was freaked out by it. and the thing is i was only in bed for a few mins. i don't even think i was truly asleep yet but i couldn't move my body when i tried. what should i do, cant afford doctor.

Firstly, you kneed to stop driving NOW! If you have an accident while asleep, then you can be prosecuted harder than if you where drink driving. This is becuase you were knowingly driving with an impairment. Also, if you injure, or even kill some one, then you'll have to live with that for the rest of your life, wondering if it could've been avoided if you had been awake and alert.

I know it sounds harsh, but I had to do it. I've got a chronic sleep disorder, so bad I cannot work anymore.

When you say you can't afford a dodctor, which country are you from? If it's the uk, then doctors and sleep clinics are all paid for on the national health.

It souns like you have night terrors, something is causing you to panic while sleeping. See your doctor as soon as you can!

Hope this has been helpful

You need to get to a doctor and fast. You may have Cataplexy or narcolpesy. You definitely need to stop driving until you get help. You can get killed from driving while asleep. If this has been going on for years, you probably do hvae narcolepsy.

Good luck.
