Medication

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Feb 13, 2002 12:39 pm

I have had several surgeries/pain clinics, physical therapy, medications, etc.. The most recent is Oxycontin. I started it two years ago and don't know what my life would be like without it. I have a new lease on life now. My only problem, I am now on 120mg twice daily and for the last 3 months it seems to be not working as well for me and after 6 hours my pain is horrible and sometimes I have to take another 80mg just to get by until my next schduled dose. I wish to GOd i didn't have to be on this medication at all but I have no choice. I don't want to have to increase it again. I also take motrin , bacoflen, antidepressants and still am having pain on a daily basis. I dont' want anymore steriod injections... that is not an option with me. I have had all the PT i can take, i do daily exercises which kill me and have had every kind of muscle stimulator and massages available. I am lost, I don't want to take narcartics for the rest of mylife....I feel that I need an increase to get relief but do not want to do this. ANy suggestions? I am only in my thirties and have osteoporosis fibromylasisa, and chronic back pain/ and adhesive arachandontisis.... Please help...

It sounds as if you are really in a tough situation. For some individuals, narcotics are really the only medication that is helpful for their pain. You have likely been treated at an experienced pain management center, but if not it would be worth seeing a group who may have other suggestions. A spinal cord stimulator can be helpful for some individuals as well.

Every doctor who has ever seen me says the same thing you did. But I thank you for your comment. I went and saw my neurologist and he is the best. We did up my meds and added a few more for break thru pain. AS this is not something I want, he explained to me that it is my only choice for some type of pain relief. I am now just taking one day at a time and hoping warm weather will get here soon. That seems to make my pain alot easier to deal with. Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question.
