One year of lower back pain, still no answers?

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue May 21, 2002 11:27 pm

Last May 2001, I experienced severe sciatic shooting pain down my left leg and saw an orthopaedic doctor. He prescribed oral steroids and pain releivers. No change.

September 2001, Sciatica dissipated slightly, severe lower back pain increased. Had epidural steroid injection. Felt more pain day after injection. No change after two weeks. Had piriformis injection. No change.

December 2001. Same situation. Increased pain releivers due to loss of mobility. Back pain radiates to bladder, pelvic region. Feels like prostatitis Saw Urologist. Took Cipro. No effect.

January 2002. Pain increases around Prostate. Emergency room visit reveals no bacteria. See Neurologist. Suspects Piriformis. Recommends same stretches I have been doing daily for Piriformis syndrome. No change. Very painful all over lower body.

Jan-Apr. Piriformis still suspect. I am doing my own research. Worried and desperate. I discovered Men can have Pelvic floor pain or Levator syndrome.

May 2002. Start seeing Physical therapist for Pelvic Floor Pain. Doing Kiegle exercises. No change yet. Will be patient. Asked my doctor to refer me for a CT Scan. Pain in extremities waxes and wanes. Still have severe lower back pain!!! Feel like a prisoner in my own body.

Hopefullu you have had MRI of the lumbar spine. Studies of the abdoment and pelvic region may also be helpful. EMG/NCV can help determine if the symptoms are on the basis of a neuromuscular basis. Good luck.
