Spinal Cord Compression

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Jul 06, 2001 5:36 pm

I had spinal fusion at C-5 and C-6 in 1997. The bone graft collapsed and another surgery was done in 1998 and plating was included this time. Since then fusion is complete but it has left me with a narrowing of the spinal canal and spinal cord compression. I am in severe pain constantly and have been on the medication oxycontin for over 3 years now. It seems to be getting worse instead of better. Is there anything more that can be done for my condition? Any suggestions to give me some hope? Thank you.

I can understand that the situation is a very difficult one. There are different methods of pain control for the type of chronic pain that you may have, and a multidisciplinary pain unit may be a good idea to investigate. Your neurosurgeon would be best to comment on the possibility of any further surgical procedures.
