Stress or something else???

Post a new topicby livingwith on Wed Jan 09, 2008 9:57 pm

A long time ago I went to the movies with my friend and my dad paid our way into the theater and left with out checking to see if it was suitable for us since we were kids. I saw a disturbing part of the movie that disgusted me and it led to panic attacks and frequent uncomfertable thoughts about the event in the movie. 2 weeks later I felt a change in my brain.
My vision was different like I was viewing the world through a camera lens or something. I some how felt drugged in a way. The anxiety ..Read the full article

I have been diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder. I have had it as long as I can remember.

The strange feeling you have, where you feel dissociated from what is around you, is something I have often felt. I also tend to replay intense movie scenes or things that impacted me emotionally over and over in my head. I have had panic attacks with hyperventalation, vertigo, nausea, feelings that I am dying, and unexplained crying. These are all parts of my mental illness.

I have been taking Zoloft and found it to take away much of the emotional intenseness, such as unreasonable feelings of rage, that was harming my relationships. I have also not felt that dissociated feeling since being on Zoloft. I have been able to get control of my reactions to my feelings; something I never could do until getting treatment.

To help me with replaying disturbing scenes in my mind, I have done some "creative visualization" meditations with therapists.

Your post struck a chord of truth for me. I know what you are talking about! It also took me nearly 30 years to get proper help. Now I have it; I am a better person. What is truly me stays; that strange physical reaction to uknown triggers is greatly diminished. Good luck.
