I suffered a tbi on 12/30/03 and I can`t seem to find a doctor that will stay/research my case long enough to tie my symptoms together without saying I`m lucky to be alive or sending me off to a specialist in which case I get lost between the cracks so to speak.3 weeks after my accident in which I sustained several broken bones and 3 closed head injuries I gained approx 50 lbs.I have a distended stomach now and I`m almost 100 lbs overweight without eating close to what I`m used to before my acci...Read the full article

Hi Edward,
I'd first look for a brain injury support group in your state. Go to www.BIAA.com and look up your state for resourses. They have resourses on tbi specialists to help you. Start with your tbi ( I to am a survivor...1-3-03.) and work on what you are experiencing. This will take some time but its a start. Best of Luck . Jeff

Hi Ed. You know, I went through EXACTLY what you are going through now when I had my TBI. Same weight gain, same referral to numerous specialists, and no answers. Finally I was referred to a psychiatrist. You see, the damage from a TBI can be much more complex than just the physical damage...there is mental damage, too. Clearly, you are confused and as disoriented as I was. The psychiatrist will help you clear up these problems far better than the medical doctors can. They will help explain your problems to you, and prescribe you medications to deal with the horrible symptoms. It really helps. I recommend this to you...or you could wind up like me talking to neursurgeons and neurologists for 11 years with no answers and lots of impatience and being treated like a child. 11 years is a lot of time, Ed. Look up the best psychiatrist and have the insurance pay for it. You'll be very glad you did!
