Working to get better: TBIIts a long story hahaha. I was in the car pool driving to work,Agrium fertilizer just east of Calgary in the carseland area. I was in the back seat on the passenger side and we were travelling down the highway and you’ll never guess what happened. A guy was doing a 100 and blew a stop sign hitting the side of the car. I could tell you all my injuries but the list is huge hahaha.

Re: Working to get better: TBIRick C. So glad to read your story. Sounds like you're getting back in the swing of things pretty good. You are doing so much better than some with the same injury. My son had a motorcycle accident 3 yrs. ago and has been blind ever since. He is now 22 yrs. old. You keep on getting better and give thanks that you are doing so well. Paul Jones
Re: Working to get better: TBIRick,
Sept 6 1982 in Orlando FL My life changed for ever in an accident not to unlike yours. Broken face, less internal injury but the massive head trauma / brain injury the same. Just a quick side note I now live in Canada and (Shhhh don't tell any one but I just started to play hockey at the age of 45, 27 years after my crainiotmy) my neighbor runs one of the brain injury associations in ON. You will more than likely have moments of great accomplishments and time of even greater depression. You will just need to keep moving forward, and when you have a bad day think about why its a bad and sleep it off, then move on to the next day. I woke up from my coma wanting to know why they did not just let me die, I had crazy headaches from day one. If you have visible signs of damage it will be better for you in the long run, you will receive help. As opposed to the people like me who look normal, walk and talk and no visible damage until I get a short haircut or take off my shirt. Blessings come in different forms and progress is for you to judge not the doctors. I LOVE playing hockey even though I SUCK at it. I have such a great time playing and everyone at shinny is so great with me. I hope you can someday play again (Let your skull heal fully).from time to time I happen to play shinny with Don Wade the Captain of Team Canada's Amputee program. If you want it bad enough allot of things can happen. You may never play at a competitive level again but a nice well padded game of no contact shinny is loads of fun. I have told my wife and kid if I should die playing shinny that they should be happy for me and I was doing the thing that makes me feel freest and happiest. But then again I have already had an extra 27 years on this earth and not all of it good. As a mater of fact a good part of the last 27 years have been painful, mentally, and physicaly. Good luck in your recovery. A
