unconscious for 2 weeks. chronic ISCHEMIC changes

Post a new topicby allandabu on Wed Jul 16, 2008 8:53 pm

My grandmother is 87yrs old. She fell and had a hip surgery. The operation was successful but 8 hours after she went to recoveryRecovery position - series room, the anesthesiologist give her another dose of bupivacaine which resulted to seizures They were able to revive her but until now she is unconcious. It's been 2weeks now. CT scan impressions says:

MODERATE TO SEVERE CHRONIC SMALL VESSEL ISCHEMIC CHANGES INVOLVING THE CEREBRAL WHITE MATTER. ATHEROSCLEROTIC INTERNAL CAROTID ARTERIES

I want to get a second opinion, can anyone kindly interpret this in laymans term? What is her chances of waking up? I will greatly appreciate your expert opinion/advise. I dearly love my grandmother

Hello,

Sorry to hear about that just a quick overview...Ischemia means decrease in blood supply due to constriction (gettting smaller or obstruction (blockage) of the blood vessels Artherosclerosis means progressive hardening and narrowing of arteries typical with age. Hope those definitions help you I am not sure about the waking up only time will tell usually even doctors can't predict that. Sorry again.
