Underlying Causes for Brain Injury

Post a new topicby calinden44 on Wed Aug 13, 2008 6:51 pm

My 18 month old daughter passed away from a traumatic brain injury caused by falling while attempting to walk. The cause of death stated "subdural hematoma". The medical records now state that the UNDERLYING causes were subdural hygroma and thoracic hydromyelia. ARe these underlying causes preexisting conditions that could cause a subdural hematoma to ultimately become more severe and cause her death? She was sent to have an emergency CT scan when 9 months old b/c our pediatrician believed she may have had hydrocephalous (sp.?) as her head circumference had increased by 1/2inch in 2 months. I felt at the time that her head was large, but the ER attending that interpreted her brain scan said there was dark, dense matter in her frontal lobe and a few spots of atrophy, but not to worry. I never felt comfortable, but believed what I was told. I then took her to a geneticist to see if there was an underlying cause of her head size, she brushed me off as well. I have now done research to find out why my daughter died and if the underlying cause listed on her death certificate could have been corrected if managed properly and saved her from this tragedy. Please help....
