Wow. Ty for your post. I WAS thinking about getting the surgery. I'll pass. I was diagnosed with BP and already know how it feels not to be able to taste and my face gets numb still sometimes. I could only imagine what having surgery would due to make things worse. Yeah, neurontin works well but Its hard getting a neurologist to prescribe neurontin. Do you know why? I usually can only get a generic supply for 2 weeks. I was diagnosed w/MS over 10 years ago and was taking neurontin but quit taking it until now. Their must be some kind of side effect that the doctors know about which may affect me in the end. (shrugging shoulders)

I just recently have been diagnosted with trigeminal neuralgia. My problem started with jaw ache that my dentist said it was my wisdom tooth, which an oral surgeon took out. I continued to have a lot of pain down my jaw line and behind my ear, throbbing acheing type of pain. The oral surgeon then thought it may be the salvia glands not working properly, and scard me to death with the options to help that. The medicines included various antibiotic failed to work and the dentist transferred me to and ear nose and throat doctor. He did not go along with the gland theroy, and from my description of the pain and various treatments believes it is TN. He sent me for an MRI this week, and suggest to put me on Trileptal 300 mg. after the MRI is read. My pain does prevent me from sleeping and is worse in the evening time. Most pain medications do not work. Like others the nurontin would take some much to help with the pain and I don't think I can tolerate it. I have been told that the Trileptal has some serous side effect and I concerned about trying it. I have heard that sometime wisdom tooth surgery can bring on TN, and I am wonder if it would pass in time.
