Coping with vertigo

Post a new topicby livingwith on Fri Sep 28, 2007 12:43 pm

I am a 44 year old woman and like most of you out of the blue in the middle of the night i woke up to everything spinning around me. I was told by my doctor that I have vertigo and put me on meclizine. I only have it when my head is tilted or I look down or up. Lying down I have it if I lay on either side. Sometimes I can find a position to lay on my side and then all of a sudden it happens again. I am going on my 10th week. I have an appt. to see a specialist but could not get in till Oct...Read the full article

I consider anyone who has experienced vertigo and survived is the bravest person I know. I would not wish this on my worst enemy! I too have been diagnosed with Vertigo, I had an ear infection(didn't know) had no fever no pain in ear. was given antibiotics for ten days. Cleared up the infection and didn't have any vertigo for 2 months. I thought I was good to go, but oh no, Woke up one morning in Sept. 07 with severe vertigo, I thought maybe I had another ear infection because by now both ears were hurting. I went to doc and both ears were fine so it started to make me worry it was something else more serious. I told him the spinning and moving only happened when I was asleep at night or went to roll over or turn my head in bed. of course he gave me the test where you lie down on the table and turn your head to left and right and watch your eyes move. He said it was my right ear(which was the ear that was infected to begin with). I already had antivert so needless to say that 's all I have for this crippling thing! I am deathly afraid to go to sleep at night for fear of it returning. I sleep with several pillows but is so unconfortable, I feel I have to keep waking up just to see if the room is spinning. I am trying to do the head manuvers to help, so far I have went a week without it but I know it's not over. It effects my daily life, my marriage(men don't understand), and it is all I think about. I know how everyone feels. I refuse to let it ruin my life though, I have children in high school and I want to be there for them, best of luck to all of you, and please if you find out any helpful info please pass it along to me and others, I will take any good advice for treating vertigo. Thanks.
