Dizziness ShockMy first encounter with Vertigo just happened a few days ago. I was sitting at work and then all of a sudden I got extremely light headed, dizzy and nauseous. My head was pounding with a sort of pain I was not familiar with. I went to one of those Urgent Care doctors only for her to tell me that it was just a migraine and gave me some Imatrax which I instantly vomitted up. I knew something was wrong as my body was not used to it, I would barely walk straight nor speak. I proceeded to the ER...Read the full article
Re: Dizziness ShockHi Lisa,
I had the same thing happened to me yesterday and still suffering from it. I went to emergency and the doctor told me the same thing about the crytals out of place. He tried a procedure on me which was to set my body to one side for a minute with my head off the edge of the bed and was repeated at 90 degree turn each time until on my back. He then asked me to raise and see if this might have put the crystal back in place. But this did not work. I still had the severe dizziness. So he prescribed some Meclizine and sent me off. I am still trying to recover from this and noticed your article about the exercises that helped you. If you don't mind could you send me a copy of those exercises. I would like to try it. Thanks Garey

Re: Dizziness ShockHi Garey,
I'm so sorry you had to experience vertigo, it's such an unpleasant thing :( It first happened to me a week ago today and I'm still recovering from it. In any case, it sounds like the exercises that your doctor suggested you try are exactly what I did. It wasn't an immediate cure for me but I continued to do them and it improved a lot over the days. They prescribed Meclizine too but it didn't seem to help. I stopped taking it and just continued with the exercises, three times a day. I can email you them anyway just in case they are not. What's your email address?
Re: Dizziness ShockHello wonderer,
Again I am sorry that you live with vertigo, I can't believe it has been an ongoing thing for you for the past two years. My doctor also suggested that I go see an ENT (Ear Neck Throat doctor). Since it has to do with the crystals in the ear, they might be able help you out. Hope the days get better for you... Lisa
Re: Dizziness ShockReading your story was like reading a page from my life's book. Tuesday, April 1st, the exact thing happened to me while I was at my desk at work. Right now things are fine as long as I am upright. As soon as I lay down my world starts to spin. I am interested in the exercises the doctor gave you - if you are still willing to share them.
Re: Dizziness ShockHi Lisa
I had one episode of Vertigo about 14 years ago after snorkeling in Florida. I got the usual meds and have been fine after that until 2 days ago. I was lying in my bed watching TV when out of nowhere my bed was spinning and I felt like I was being pulled towards the wall. I sat up and this helped the spinning briefly until the nausea/vomiting came about 5 min later. The long and short of it is I ended up in the ER after vomiting every 5-10 min for 2 1/2 hours. It wasn't until I was able to get a dose of Phenergan (after getting Zofran that didn't work ) 5 hours after it started that I stopped vomiting. I have never been so sore in my life. You had mentioned in your post about exercises that had helped you and I was wondering if you could send them to me ? thanks Tracy
Re: Dizziness ShockBasically all you do is sit up for a few minutes, then lie down with a pillow right under your lumbar, make sure that your head is lower than the pillow. Lay there for about a minute then turn your head to the left and stay there for a minute. Then turn completely on your right side with your shoulder on the pillow and tilt your head downward, lay there for a minute and then sit back up. This worked for me, the doctor said it was a way for the crystal to get back into place. It might vary if the vertigo is worse on the left side, if so then just do the movements starting on the right side. These exercises should be done 3 times a day until the dizziness stops. It worked for me but not always works for everyone....hope this helps!
