I woke up on Saturday May 3rd at around 7am—when I opened my eyes the room was spinning out of control. I closed my eyes and felt like I my vomit. I tried to be still and see if it would pass. At about 7:30 I went to the restroom to which I felt sick and broke out into a cold sweat. I went back to bed feeling worse and still dizzy–this went on until about 11am– I called my mom to come over becasue I was a bit scared—Once she got there I actually thought I felt better so I...Read the full article

I have been diagnosed with Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo . I had a visit with my doctor today and she suggested taking Musinex D in the red box twice a day. It will not make you sleepy. I will eventually have to go to Physical Therapy to get relief. My vertigo happen in the middle of the night in January after I sneezed in my sleep. Hope this helps.

The same thing you are describing happened to me this morning. I went to bed with a severe headache (I never get headaches) and woke up, opened my eyes and the room was spinning. I tried to get to the bathroom and ran into every wall on the way there. Luckily I am an ER nurse and see people with this presenting complaint quite frequently. Though there can me many diagnoses for dizziness, one common diagnosis is Vertigo. We typically give meclizine 25 mg by mouth along with a good antiemetic (nausea medication). I was fortunate today because you can buy meclizine over the counter and I had some in my cupboard. Dramamine Less Drowsy formula contains meclizine. I took one tablet (25 mg) and slept for 4 hours. When I woke up the dizziness was all but gone. I still feel wiped out but can move around and not fall over.

By the way, you may have to take more than one dose of meclizine to feel relief. Patients I have seen with severe vertigo typically need more than one dose. Be sure to read the warning signs and instructions before taking Dramamine. I hope this helps!
