I don't suffer with your symptoms but my father does in a similar way to what you have described. He, like you has had MRI's, CT's, EKG, EEG, and major sinus surgery removing large pollups that were causing a chronic sinus infection but the dizzy spells are back with a vengence. His are episodes and not contant. He has had all of his medications changed and nothing has seemed to help. He has had his ears checked also and found that for his age of 73 his hearing was better than they expected yet for a while he was having ear pain although that has relented since the sinus surgery. We are at a complete loss.

About a month ago he lost consciousness totally (briefly, about 5 or 6 seconds but totally) and he was in the hospital for 6 days. He said it almost felt as if he had gotten an electrical shock. They then did tests for epilepsy and brain wave activity changes including doing the flashing strobe light test and nothing like that has happened since. My name is Linda. I am Chuck's daughter and we can feel for what you are going through and just like you, we are EXTREMELY ready for some answers. Let us know if you find anything out.

I just found this website and read your post. I understand your dizziness and hope you are getting better and seeking some kind of treatment/diagnosis. I too had a terrible experience of vertigo on May 19th that has left me dizzy, ringing in my ears, pressure, some nausea and a fear of having another severe attack. I can tell you that I have completely changed the way I eat and sleep. I have tried to keep my stress down but just having this condition causes stress and I feel it has helped somewhat. I am now at a level that I can cope and deal with my responsibilities here at home but I do find myself exhausted at the end of the day. I was in the hospital for a couple of days when it first happened and was told I had a "virus" in my ear. I don't feel that is a true diagnosis. I have seen an ear, nose & throat specialist who did a benchmark hearing test. I do have hearing loss in the high tones. I am to go back in two more weeks for another test and an mri. I am hoping to never have another bad attack.
I know this is very, very difficult and it's hard to explain to people because we look normal. I don't think people understand how and disabling it can make one feel.
Let me know if you are better and if you have changed your habits in any way and if it's helped your condition.
Best to you,
Toni

Please let us know how the appointment with the neurologist went. I have been suffering from chronic vertigo for 11 months. Although I have had an abnormal response to the VEMP and ECOG they cannot say that I have Meniere's because my symptoms are chronic and not episodic. I just met with a Neurologist yesterday and she was no help. I have tried everything...including Ativan. Diuretics make the symptoms worse. I am trying at the end of my rope.

Hi everyone......Sorry it's taken so long to return & reply..............My neuroligist visit had a happy but sad ending. My mri and ct were good,no nerve damage, disease or tumors. That was the good thing.Sad thing is that after he ran his test & checked me out he indicated he couldn't do anything for me.He said it would be an inner ear issue.Just what I wanted to hear once again.Back depressed!!!He sent me back to my ear nose & throat doctor to have him re-examine me and tell me the same thing once again(I don't see any obstruction or issue thats visible,I can't help you)......At this point I really have no trust or faith in Doctors........The E N T indicated that I needed to go to a different type of ENT......So here I am....minus money for copayments w/no positive results.I'm scheduled for this ent july 24th.....Although my primary has indicated that I may have Meniers Disease w/chronic vertigo.......A few things that I've done thats actually given me a little relief from the dizzines are Maneuvers for the inner ear(BRANDT-DAROFF EXERCISES and Semont maneuver..http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/bppv/bppv.html...)these exercises along w/taking Ginko24 herbs & drinking a herbal tea(chrysanthemum)......After being told I may have meniers disease I've also purchased an herbal supplement thats suppose to cure the dizziness, ringing of the ear & fullness of the ear.I'll have to post the name of it...Anyway this is where I stand....no positive results or help from the doctors

Sorry to hear your condition remains the same. It's frustrating to go through all the expense, time and emotion and end up starting over. I do have a question for you. I believe thoroughly that I have Menieres Disease as well. I have been through a severe attack of vertigo and I have all the residual symptoms of Menieres. Constanly dizzy, fullness of the ears, ringing, pressure..etc. I am scheduled for an mri at the end of this month. My question is..why are you seeing another ent Dr? Is it because the one you are seeing is not qualified? Some of the articles I have read indicate they may specialize in different areas. The one I am seeing states he deals with all
issues concerning the ears but I'm not sure. Just curious why you are switching doctors. I have a feeling I might go through all this with the current one I'm seeing just to be told he can't help as well.
Very frustrating.
Best to you in your recovery and glad to hear the exercises are helping.

Yes different ents deal w/different aspects of the inner ear.Its like mechanics.....they're all listed as mechanics but each are more familiar or specialize w/different issues.I'd definately switch or at least question a different ent.....All at the same time hang in there,as soon as I can get myself situated & figure this M D under control i'll definately fill you in.Hopefully you'll clear up before me.

Hi there I was interested to find out which herbal supplements you have purchased for the dizziness?? My ears pricked up as I am taking ginger tablets at the moment but my doctor told me not to take toomany as they can cause tissue and skin damage!!! I am also interested in the chrisanthimum tea you mentioned. Where can you purchase that and how does it help?

The herbal tea is CHRYSANTHEMUM VASCUFLOW it can be purchased at most herbal stores. The herbal supplement that i'm taking is LIPO-FLAVONOID PLUS it improves circulation in the inner ear, this can be purchased at most CVS pharmasies.([moderator note: website address has been removed]).......I've also tried CLEAR EYES & SHARP EAR by BALANCEUTICALS(no good results after 2 60 capsule bottles).....For some odd reason i've had the best results after taking CLARITIN D..........No noticeable sinus or inner ear issues visible by the ENT but for some odd reason CLARITIN CLEARS MY HEAD UP(70%)for maybe a few hours. The bad thing is that i can't keep taking it every few hours.....Lost & confused....I look around at everyone enjoying their lives, having fun on weekends & going through normal everyday routines w/pleasure.I'm glad to be alive but I can't recall the last enjoyable day that I've had.I'm scheduled for "THE ENT OF ENT DR'S"on August 12th.
