Viral Vertigo

Post a new topicby livingwith on Fri May 09, 2008 4:04 pm

I’ve had viral vertigo for three weeks. I have been to my internist and an ENT. I have had a normal MRI I am still dizzy. Anti-vert does not help so I stopped taking it. The vertigo will seem to get a little better, then, wham, I’m dizzy again. It’s worst when I try and get up and move somewhere. Just sitting isn’t too bad and lying down seems okay. It’s hard to drive anywhere, I’m not hungry, it’s hard to do anything - even reading or watching T...Read the full article

Hi !

Just wanted to say, I know what your going through and feel the same as you. Your story sounds just like mine unfortunately. I went to my doctor 6 weeks ago with sever symptoms of vertigo. She said I had Labtrinthitis a virus in the inner ear and prescribed meclizine and told me I should be feeling better in a few days. The medication did not work and was bed ridden for the next week. Then my doctor sent me to see a ENT who then said I had BPPV, calcium crystal dislodged in my ear canal and prescibed vestibular rehabilitation exercises, which also did not help. The ENT then prescribed a low dose a valium hoping that would help me retain some balance, no luck. In the mean time, I've had a hearing test with good results and the vestibular & videonystamograpy testing. I starting having sever headaches, migrains and some trembling in my hands, so then I was referred to see a Neurologist. I had some blood work done and a MRI which I'll get the results back on next Thursday. The Neuroligist thinks my vertigo may be caused by my migrains but not sure at this time. Waiting on my MRI and blood work to come back.

I've talked to so many people and listen to the stories of others who are suffering from vertigo, and it helps to know that I'm not alone. Like you said, I have days where I think it's going away, and the bam! it hits all over again.

I know how hard it is, but hang in there!
