what is this???

Post a new topicby livingwith on Mon Apr 27, 2009 4:03 pm

I went on a short (3hour) plane ride back in October 2008 and a few days later was sitting down to eat and watched the whole room start spinning. I had to grab the table to keep myself from falling. Ever since then I have felt motion sick almost all of the time. I also have episodes where I feel a wave of dizziness start (almost feels like I am being zapped), immediately I felt a hot sensation run through my body and then I have a panic attack. Reading books, watching TV, having a dentist wo...Read the full article

This sounds exactly like my story! My dizzy spells started 3 years ago after I went on a long plane ride though (6 hours). I tried explaining the correlation to my multiple doctors and they acted like I was crazy. I have been told by nearly every doctor that I just have anxiety. I only have the anxiety because of the spells. I have always been extremely health. I'm a 26 year old female, 120 lbs, no prior health problems. Recently the spells had got a little better to where I was able to be more and more independent. About a month ago, my family and I flew to Disneyworld. It was a short flight, about 2 hours. After being in Disneyworld for 3 days, the dizzy spells started. After the return flight home I felt even worse. When the spells start I get hot and I will turn red and then starts the panicing. These spells have caused me anxiety to where I fear doing anything anymore. I really feel like it has to have something to do with my ears or sinuses, etc. I have had mutliple blood tests, EKG, multiple heart monitors, Echocardiogram, Stress Test, Thryoid Checked, MRI, EEG, Glucose Test, Seizure Monitor, Audio VNG. I have been diagnosed with MAV (Migraine Associated Vertigo) from one doctor. Anxiety Disorder from another. Another doctor had suspected heart problems and did extensive testing, that got ruled out. I feel like a guinea pig. My husband doesn't understand what I'm going through and probably thinks I am just crazy.

Please keep me informed if you find anything out on your condition, or just if you want to share anything. It's nice to be able to unload on somebody every now and then, especially if they understand what you are going through. =)

I definitely think there is a relationship between the vertigo and the plane ride. I have experienced the same thing. I am 58 years old and have allergies and sinus problems. About 6 or 7 years ago I took and trip to Puerto Rico and the day after I returned, I woke up to the room spinning. I thought I was having a stroke! Everything turned out normal and I was sent to an ENT specialist who did numerous tests and found nothing. He said he thought I probably had a virus! That's the answer for "I don't know what it is!" Prior to this I had had a bought of vertigo when I was about 32, which cleared up and I wasn't bothered by it until recently. I have a real sensitivity to motion and boats are the worst. It's gotten worse as I've gotten older. In the past two years I have developed migraines and was put on Nadolol (blood pressure meds) as a preventative and Amerge for when I feel it coming on. Additionally, I have been getting vertigo attacks prior to the migraines. I have been trying to find out if anyone else has these issues. This past month, May, 2009, the vertigo has been really bad and so have the migraines. Last winter I took a plane ride in January and also had another vertigo attack. I'm convinced that the migraines and vertigo are related and so are my allergies, since this is allergy season and it seems to be pretty bad. I do take daily meds for the allergies too. I don't know if this helps you any but I believe the pressure from flying does something to bring on the vertigo, as well as weather changes in pressure.
