help needed with vertigo

Post a new topicby gmoney55 on Fri Jul 18, 2008 7:23 pm

Hello, I am glad to have finally found this forum. I started experiencing sign of vertigo about 5 years ago. The doctors were dumbfounded and could not figure what was wrong with me. It took them several months to diagnose me with bppv. I had a ruptured fistula in my left ear. I had surgery to repair the fistula in september 2006. Recovery went pretty well and after a few repositioning movements i felt like i was on the road to recovery. I had a ringing in my ears from time to time but all seemed fine. Then i started to feel alot of pressure in my ears and the ringing started to get worse. I see a specialist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He told me that i would need to go on a fluid pill (lasix) to help with the fluid building up. It seemed to work butn then whenever bad weather comes it gets really out of control. I was told that i now have what they call visual vestibular mismatch. And this is the worst thing in the world. I can't drive on the interstate, go into a big store, be around a crowd of people, or things like this because if i do these things i feel like i am about to pass out due to the dizziness Loud noises bother me also standing in one spot for longer than a few seconds gets me like this also. I can't look up at the sky, can't climb ladders, I feel like I have no control of my life anymore. The doctor that i see is supposed to be one of the tops in this field but i am not seeing any improvements and i am desparate to find any help. We just had our first child 2 months ago and i don't want to not be able to do stuff with her as a result of this condition. I am really at my wits end with this. I lost my job about 2 years ago due to this. I am now working but only because it is for a friend who knows my situation and i am making 1/3 of what i was making before this crap took my life over. WHen it first started i don't think my wife believed me and i know none of my friends believe me now as to what i am going through. It is very frustrating because people think you are making this up and have no idea how my life is a living hell due to this condition. Does anyone have any ideas that may help me with this situation. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bless you heart. It seems so strange that people do not understand those who suffer with this condition. I guess because there are no visible outward signs it makes it more difficult to see that there is really a problem.

I just had my 2 spell in a 9 month period so something tells me I am fixing to embark on a long journey to try and figure out what is going on. i keep telling my husband this is more than just being dizzy and that when they say you are just off balance it is much more complex than that.

I have read every article I can for the last two days to try and find out everything I can about this and try and learn the causes, the treatments and what I should expect.

It the doctor you are seeing a Neurologist seems they are the ones who have more expertise in the area than others.

You may want to get another opionion just to see if they have looked at all avenues. I am going to Monday set up an appointment with my regular doctor and have her give me ref. to a Neurologist for further testing. I want everything checked.

What medications do they have you on? And have they tried any diet changes, therapy, or anything else at this point?

Keep us posted . And in the meantime dont give up looking for answers.

They have me on lasix everyday plus i have to take phenergan whenever the dizziness gets really bad. I have gone to several doctors for opinions and all have come to the same conclusion about my condition. I have poured over information about this condition but just can't catch a break and get my condition going in the right direction.
