I wouldn't wish this on my worse enemy

Post a new topicby DizzyBlonde on Tue May 20, 2008 11:27 pm

Hi, I am a 21 year old mom, and recently after getting really sick I am experiencing what has been diagnosed as vertigo (I really don't think that they know what they are talking about.) I haven't had any tests dont but I have lost my job due to me getting a cold that lastest a week on top of being so dizzy and sick my mom had to feed me and take care of me like a baby. That was when it all started. I didn't think of anything till it started to happen once a week and the last time my mom had to pick me up off of the floor at work and take me to the hospital. People don't beleive me and think that I am making it up I have heard my superierors laughing at me when I was laying in my car so sick that I wanted to die. I tried meclizine and that didn't work then they gave me something that started with a P (lol) It worked but it knockes me out. That scares me because I have two kids to take care of and I NEED to work. I don't want the drs to think that I am making this up. I do also have a lot of back pain that has been going on for 3 years now. I was reading on this and it said something about muscule pain. I don't know. I wish I knew what brought it on and I would never do it again. The scariest is when I am driving with my kids and it happens. My dad has lypus and my brother has MS I don't know if it is relevent but I am not getting any answers from drs just pills. I want this to stop. I get it so bad that sometimes I wish I wasn't living anymore and that is what scares me. I will handle the back pain and any other pain you throw at me but please please take this away!!!!! What are some of the things that brings it on for you guys?? I need help!!!!

This is ironic. I was just saying "I wouldn't wish this upon my worst enemy" and I am also a blonde. I had back surgery 5 1/2 weeks ago and I thought thats what it was from. Mine started on a tue. I had layed on the couch for relief from my back, when I went to get up, kind of like you get up to fast and you get a head rush. But it wouldn't go away. I swayed to my bed and stayed there the rest of the night. The next day it was ok, then Thur. very dizzy. Things kept going back and forth. I couldn't focus on anything. I called my doctor and she checked everything out and ordered a CAT scan. That was ok. She told me it was Vertigo and gave me Mecxline. Well the weekend got worse. Sat I couldn't even get out of bed. My eyes were actually going back and forth. Went to Emergency room on sunday. Then my doctor refered me to a Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. Then did a hearing test and ordered Physical Therapy and a ENT. Haven't gone for those yet, but I talked to another Audiologist and He was very noligable. I couldn't believe when everyone said it has to run it's course, but it's true. The audiologist said some people actually will get massages on there necks. Your neck stiffens up because you won't move it. They say once the dizziness get's bearable you need to move your neck and exercise it. It has gotten better. Haven't driven yet. It has been 9 days since it started and it has gotten better, but not gone yet. You do start to deal with it. (once it gets alittle better) I think if it would of stayed like it was over the weekend. I don't know where I would of been. I hope it doesn't come back!!! But back to you, You need to get some test's done first to rule out anything else. Ask your doctor to refer you to a Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. Check around or call around to see who specializes in Vertigo. Get more info. This forum is good. It does give alot of good info and alot of questions from people. Don't just stop at your Doctor, go to and E,N,and T spec. I was really floored when they told me it just had to run it's course, and like I said I would of hated to see if I would of been like I was over the weekend. It is running it's course. But I have heard of people it lasts alot longer. They say the older you are the longer it does last. But with you being so young, I would search for more answers. I hope this helps and I know I ramble on. (Sorry) But it helps to get it out and talk to other people. Thanks!!!!!

I just found this website. I wish I'd found it a year and a half ago! It's such a relief to find other people who know what the hell I'm experiencing, at least to some degree!

I was involved in a high speed crash in 2006, and had a traumatic brain injury, among other injuries, such as compression fractures and bulging discs in my spine and torn muscles and ligaments through out my body. I've lost both lower and higher brain functions, and have become disabled. About the only thing I have left intact is my language skills.

I was referred to a balance center for therapy, where they told me my vestibular system only functions at 25%. I can compensate by touch and sight for an overall score of around 50% to 60% on a really good day, but they couldn't get me any better than that.

And everything goes to hell in a handbasket when I get on an airplane. Actually, I'm not that bad on the airplane, it's what happens when I get off.

Does anyone else get really bad when they fly? I get extreme vertigo, (both subjective and objective)and an over powering sense of heaviness that can literally immobilize me. What's worse, is the extreme vertigo can last for almost a year after flying before it returns to what is now passing for normal for me. I throw up just trying to walk across the room, and I have to hold on to stuff. If I push it too much, I will lose conciousness or fall.

Anyone else experience a feeling of heaviness? I feel so heavy, I can't move. I feel like I will crush any furniture I'm lying on, or crash through floors. I've had it so bad that I've been unable to move a muscle for three days, not even to change to a more comfortable position. It's freaky, and none of my doctors seem to be able to explain what is happening to me.

You are writing like it is my own story. I can relate to you! I am 38 years old, and I have been suffering with Vertigo, headaches, balance issues and so on for almost 2 years now. The only thing I do not have is the back pain. I am married, with 2 small children, and can relate to you so well. I am scared. I am a Nurse at a Hospital, and I work with these doctors on a daily basis. I think, they think I am just whacked and making it up. Like you said," I would not wish this on my worst enemy." I know that I am not crazy. This is very unpredictable and disabling at times. I have had many days off of work because I can not even get out of bed and function normally. I want to figure this out. I wish you the best of luck and know that there are people out there just like you.

My last post was on May 20, 2008. I have felt MUCH better. I haven't had a bad dizzy spell in almost 2 weeks. And the only time that was happening was when I was chewing something a little harder. I have asked my dentist why and if that had anything to do with it. He said no, and he couldn't find anything. But that always seemed when it happened. But so far no dizziness. So in my case, yes it did just go away. Took a little bit but it's gone. And I hope it never comes back again. I never did get the ENG because I was feeling better, but sometimes I wish I would of. Just to rule other things out. They say it just has to run it's course and I see some of you it doesn't. Mine did. Thanks for listening to me and my prayers go out to everyone.

those are my words. i have a lot of very painful problems but this dizziness, vertigo or whatever is unbearable. personel doc, orth doc, all say have neuro problem refer to neurologists . one does epemdermal on back, one disk compession, etc is there one who will work on all? ear/nose doc done all test to rule out any problem with inner ears. i have none. he sent me to ANOTHER nuero and had already had ct scan of brain done so nuero would have it to save time.(it showed no problem) balance wayy of, fall to right, falling backwards, tell them all hands and feet do not work with brain. i can not remember simple things, short term memory shot, words, even sounding out, is wacko. just gets worse with each year. if had to do drunk test, one foot in front of other, i would fail. first if i can get feet and brain to even start, after two steps i fall sideways. and the vertigo. but i do not spin, etc. just sooo sick, things go like into tunnel, way away. fight like mad to keep from going out but passout few times. this neuro same ole. touch my finger, your nose, walk across 5 foot room and back. well we will make app for ekg, heart monitor, and see. as you all said, can handle the rest but can not live this sick, frozen in motion, extreme weird kind of motion sickness, everthing fading away feeling. someone help us

The dentist is dead wrong. Chewing something can trigger vertigo due to the head moving with the action of the jaws for chewing your food. If the food is harder you have to bite harder causing the head to move even though you don't realize it. This has happened to me several times when i was chewing on some ice.

my husband woke up 1 morning a little over a year ago now calling me to wake up , he said the room was spinning so fast , he tried to get up and he would fall right back down in bed, i called his brother and 911. they said his blood pressure was high , took him to hospital were he stayed 4 days . All kinds of Drs came in . it left, 1yr later it happened again, we stayed in bed rm all day me getting him anything he ask for , not calling 911 coz they did nothing at hospital, the kids brought friends and lifted him in blanket to recliner in living rm. well, we sleep in recliners for 2 mos. or more, he was scared to go to bed. he has not gotten over it as of yet and we have been to every kind of dr. from ears to heart. nothing they say or do has helped. pills, exerices,(you can't do in ya'lls shape) he is seeing dr in another state next wk. GOD i hope he can help. I feel for you and everyone going through this, it takes a toll on you. Remember 1 thing GOD IS WITH YOU ALL . keep your faith talk to people I am always here I drive my husband everwhere now , he is scared he will wreck and hurt someone . i wish i had answers but don't know if there are any
