My Vertigo is petrifying me!!!!I have previously submitted a post but to my dissapointment no one has replied :(
The Vertigo is getting worse by the month, spinning and dizzy spells have now started to panic me that much I fear I am experiencing panick attacks on top of the Vertigo! My family seem to think I'm fine but unless you have experienced vertigo how can you know its full extent? Please please please, someone reply to me and tell me that they are experiencing the same thing as me! I feel so alone and I have got my MRI scan at the end of this month and i'm terrified. Anyone with any comments please help me????
Re: My Vertigo is petrifying me!!!!Hi Dear, I'm sorry you're having a hard time with this. I also have bouts of vertigo that just started happening about 6 months ago. It's not constant but when it happens it sure is unnerving as well as nauseating (literally). I got a CT scan which showed nothing. Whew! It's not a tumor or MS or anything like that. My ENT doctor suspected Meniere's Desease which is an inner ear fluid problem that can throw your balance way off and give you the spins. I was tested for that today but the tests showed it isn't that. It bugs me that there isn't anything obvious that I can treat or have as an explanation for these spells of mine. I'm thankful it's nothing serious but do want to know why it's happening.
I know how scary and upsetting vertigo can be. Try to stay calm when it happens. Don't make it worse by going in to anxiety attacks. That can make your head spin too. Just slow down your breathing and the rest of your body will follow. I'm sorry your family isn't sympathetic to your problem. Have you been having head aches or anything? Is it constant or are there times when you feel fine? Do you have any hearing loss? Let me know how you're doing.
Re: My Vertigo is petrifying me!!!!Thanks for replying to my post. Its nice to know that i'm not the only one who suffers this, I realise thousands of people suffer this but getting to know about it on a personal level is difficult. I'm glad your scans came back negative here's hoping mine do too?
I dont get headaches or any other symptoms other than the crazy spinning and feeling like i'm going to collapse on the floor. Its quite hard not to panick when the attacks come on as the feeling of not knowing what is causing it is probably the reason that I panick. The doctor has prescribed me some tablets that disolve at the top of my gums but they do nothing!! At 25, for this to be happening is quite scary and unnerving. Thanks again for replying to me xx
Re: My Vertigo is petrifying me!!!!Hello, I am suffering from Vertigo and panick attacks at the same time. I was hospitalized when they both happend at the same time. I thought I was dying. Obviously i am fine and all tests were normal. I have been dealing with this for almost a year, you are definitely not alone. I felt like my husband thought i was making it up or exagerating, but it is scary. Always know that when it happens it will go away you will be fine you just have to get through the tough part.I take meclizine for the vertigo. I dont like to take pills so i take it as needed, but take it at the first sign. with time you will recognize the signs better. With the help of my husband and therapist I have them less often now (panic attacks) I did not want to go to a therapist but she has helped me find relaxation tecniques that do help. I feel closer to normal now.Stay away from sodium and caffiene I always get a vertigo episode after having a salty meal. I am 27 and thought I was too young to have these. I hope the best for you. Hold on to something and stabelize yourself to minimize discomfort.I don't go anywhere without my anti-nausea meds. Good luck!
Re: My Vertigo is petrifying me!!!!I was 29 and pregnant when I had 2 spells of true vertigo (I felt like the room was spinning). I could not walk striaght and I got sick to my stomach. That was June and Aug of 2006. Each episode lated about 8-10 hours. I was fine until May of 2007 when I got some news that really stressed me out. A week later, I was dizzy again, but not with the room spinning. I felt like I was spinning, living in a "dream world" When I would turn my head, I would see everything, but it was like 1/2 second after I had already seen it. I saw an ENT who told me it was a viral inner ear infection and he said I would feel better in 6 weeks. Well, 6 weeks came and went and I really did not feel better. I then saw another ENT who is a balance specialist. He also agreed it was a viral inner ear infection. I was put on acyclovir and he also put me on a diuretic to try and minimize it going to meniers disease. All of my tests CT Scans/MRIs/ENG testing came back normal except that I have a 32% weakness in my right ear. I no longer have the feeling that what I am looking at is not really what I am looking at, but I do still have balance problems. I feel as if I am moving, even when I am not. Kind of like the feeling you get while doing the ENG, but not as severe at that. I cannot even lay in bed without feeling like I am moving. I keep praying for a full recovery from this, at 31 with 4 kids (7/4/2.5 and 14 months) AND working full time, that is stressfull enough, I just want to feel normal again.
Re: My Vertigo is petrifying me!!!!You are not alone. It's been 5 months for me. I'm still searching to see if anyone has vertigo symptoms like mine. I get it every 10-12 days, like clockwork. I only get it while sleeping in bed. Sometimes it wakes me up, or once I move my head. When it starts, it takes 12-24 hours for it to be totally gone. It is always accompanied by nausea (I'll throwup 3-5 times per episode). Once it's gone, I'm usually fine until the next bout shows up. I was diagnosed originally with BPPV, but my ENT says he thinks its Labryinthitus. I don't think it's either. Thru a web blog, I found a website that specializes in vertical heterophoria syndrome. It's worth a look at to read the testimonials to see if it fits your symptoms. Go to www.vsofb.com and check it out. Best of Luck...
Re: My Vertigo is petrifying me!!!!Hi, I had another bout of vertigo Saturday morning. The room was spinning so badly I had to lay down. It lasted only about 2 hours. Talked to my ENT's office today. He had prescribed a weeks worth of steroids for potential inner ear swelling which have nasty side affects like sleeplessness, weight gain, irritability and the like. I didn't get it filled. I spose I should, just in case. My poor husband. LOL! Luckily he's a patient man. At least it's only for a week. I'll ask my husband to hide all sharp objects.
Re: My Vertigo is petrifying me!!!!Hi everyone,
I wanted to write a quick post because I am getting SO frustrated with the lack of background information on what I think is vertigo. I'm now 29 years old and it all began when I was about 6. Every six months, give or take, I have one or two entire nights where I have a dream about flipping all around, then wake to find the room is absolutely spinning and won't stop. I don't particularly know how to express in words how incredibly frightening and unnerving it is. It's not dizzy, it's way beyond the realm of dizzy, it's as if my room turned into one of those rides where you stick to the wall, but it's going even faster than they do. It will last for about a minute, I grab the pillow, I can't hold my eyes or head straight, I scream most times (Stop, stop, help me, things like that). After the room stops flipping uncontrollaby, I usually cry a little, sit up straight and try to make my head stop feeling like it's floating, and I go back to sleep only to be awoken AGAIN in the same night not 30 minutes later. This will happen allll night long. Normally, it lasts the one night, then I'm fine for around six months and it will happen again. I keep finding info on the net about vertigo, but I had my ears checked and that wasn't the problem. I also have not found any info about why I would have this for so many years and it would not have gone away by now. Also, there is no info on the net about why I only get it when I'm dead asleep, most people have it happen all day. I thought maybe it was stress, but ruled that out because logically I would get it during the day when I'm thinking about stress, right? Does anyone out there know what this could be, or at least, have the same problem? I worry sometimes that there's something wrong with me, but the doctor thinks I'm exaggerating (I wish I were) so they don't do as many tests as they should. Help! K
Re: My Vertigo is petrifying me!!!!Wow, how frightening! So, when you had your ears checked what tests did they do? Did they test for Meniere's Desease which is an inner ear fluid issue? Did they do an MRI to see if they could see anything? It's something so if I were you I'd keep investigating until I found what the problem is. Just my humble opinion. Let me know what you think.
