vertigo

Post a new topicby jello on Fri Sep 25, 2009 11:07 am

Original diagnosis abt 2 yrs ago by pcp. When I feel it coming on I take an antihistamine. If it stays I begin meclazine 50 mg every 6 hrs. It can also come on suddenly and than I'm in bed taking the meds for at least two days.

Ten days ago it hit me and had to be in bed. Been having symptoms for over 10 days. able to function, but wonder about it all.

Is it worth a neurologist appt?

With recurrent vertigo, there is a concern about Meniere's disease which is also associated with hearing loss and nausea. Otherwise, there are states of recurrent vertigo. It would be helpful to see both a neurologist and neurotologist (Ear nose and throat doctor who specializes in inner ear diseases). Alternatively at larger academic centers, there are neurologists who specialize in the inner ear also.

It would be important to get a better history. Testing of the inner ear and possibly MRI scan of the brain may also be warranted.

Hope this is helpful.
