Help!!! with ET and Employer

Post a new topicby bancurls on Thu Jul 17, 2008 5:27 pm

Hi All, I am also new at forums and ET I believe I have had it for years but was recently diagnosed. I am taking Propranolol(Inderal LA) 120 mg a day. I have attemped to increase this amount however side effectss of fatigue and dizziness were more uncomfortable.

I have been out of work for several months due to other conditions not related to ET I am now returning to work and my issue is that I spend 10 hours a day at a computer keyboard. My job performance is reviewed by accuracy and speed. I know both will be a factor when I return to work shortly and Iam n ot sure how to deal with this. My employer is not "understanding" and does not allow for error. I do understand as I work for an investment firm and I input the amounts of $$ as clients send in checks and applications or liquidations. However the employer has refused any disablity claim as my doctor indicates my tremor is "mild" I cannot make phone calls without duplicating numbers, change TV channels is almost impossible with out duplicating hits and when I type I have to go back and correct my duplicate hits on letters, usually in every word. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get through this and keep my job??

Thanks all. It is great to have a support group here. I am glad I found you all.

Have a good day,

Hi bancurls
AHHHH...typing..i wonder how many mistakes will be in this that I will correct..haha..I do a ton of backasswards typing. I find it all part of ET. I typed a letter to my daughters, a cousin, and 2 friends and hit send before fixing it all and my youngest daughter called and said...Mom..either up your ET dosage or make sure you go to spell check before hitting send..haha..I take Propranol and Primidone. Takes both meds to help me get thru the day. I am sorry your boss is not understanding. My boss is a gem..and he know ssomedays are horrible, but we all joke about it and go on. I wish you much luck and please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!

Hi Deb,

It sounds like you have a good situation to work in and I am jealous. This is an interesting situation this ET. As of this writing it looks like I am going to get fired. I can't believe I have gone from top performer in this company to "poor" performer in one year.

I guess I will go back to job search and see if anyone out there hires someone that stutters when she types and is not "young" any more.

I'll keep you posted. I think I am wearing out my "backspace" key. hehehehehe

I really can't say anything about employers because I haven't been able to work in a little over 4 years and let me tell you it's frustrating sometimes because I can't live on the amount of SSI I get. I'm sure there's a job out there for you and I hope you find it soon. As for typing I have the same problem but I do everything I can not to write because no one can read it. The bad part of that is I used to have as my husband says "beautiful handwriting"
Good Luck with the job:)
Hugs to all

I don't think she would ground you, although she might get a good laugh out of it. I told my mom about it when I was about 25 yrs old and she said if she had known back then she would have grounded me for life HaHa!!!!! But instead we shared a good long laugh about it. I don't have my mom anymore she past away in 1998 just 2 weeks after I left my ex. I was devistated because I was really close to my mom. gotta go for now....
hugs to all
